Runners

It is very important that I can validate the framework that I am currently developing to represent collective motion. The runners of a race form a collective where the movement of the individuals are very important – you cannot have a race where all of the individual runners stand still! By gathering GPS data from the runners of a race I can compare the data to my current findings to see if they are correct. I can also see if there are any key movement patterns that are missing from my current framework.

How Can You Help?

If you have recorded GPS data for a race (e.g., via a watch or ipod touch) you could provide valuable data for my research. All I need is a copy of your GPS data - all data is anonymous. I currently have (or am expecting data) from the following races:

  • the Grizzly 2010 (including the Cub race),

  • the Great West Run,

  • the Jurassic Coast 10K, and

  • the Tiverton Half Marathon.

However, I can examine the data from any race as long as I have data from more than two participants. Therefore, if you run in a club, and a group of you have recorded GPS data for a race, you too could help. If you would like to volunteer, please email me and I can send back some instructions on how you can send me a copy of your data. My findings will be sent to everyone who volunteers their data.
